Qualifications, Skills & Experience

The
Salmon and Trout Association's National Instructor's Certificate
(STANIC) is the nationally recognised qualification for teaching
fly-fishing. In addition to that qualification, I have over 40
years angling experience. I also taught adults and young people
for almost 30 years, developing a great deal of insight into communicating
skills and ideas.
I established the Beckfisher business in April 2000 and now work
as a full-time, professional fly-fishing instructor and guide.
From my home in an area of outstanding natural beauty, I can offer
instruction on:
- Small still waters for rainbow trout
- Larger lakes for brown and rainbow trout
- Reservoirs for rainbow trout
- Small streams and rivers for brown trout and grayling
- Yorkshire Dales rivers for brown trout and grayling
- Over a mile of chalk stream fishing on Driffield Beck.
The first experiences of fly-fishing are a foundation for future
enjoyment. Many parents wisely entrust this introduction to a
professional. Those parents may be reassured by the fact that
I am background checked, by the police, and accredited for working
with young people.
One of my main objectives is to promote fly-fishing as a relaxing,
stress relieving activity. There has been regional and national
press coverage of this aspect of my work.
There is no substitute for professional tuition. Contact Beckfisher
and take the frustration out of the learning curve.
What
my clients say...
Unsolicited Internet posting:
I have had difficulty in getting some Tuition for river
fishing. Out of a previous T&S mag article I came across a
guy called Roger Beck. I believe that it's useful to pass on...
experience to fellow fishers. I contacted Roger for a day's tuition
and he came to the Ure at Masham. ... From the word go, Roger
grafted the whole time, constantly giving advice/demonstrating
on tactics, casting, reading the water etc. I started the day
as a beginner
and finished with an idea of which direction
I should be going as shown by the trout I caught.
